You Can Win The Battle of Depression

There is a serious condition that must not be left untreated.  This condition is caused by chemical imbalances and changes that take place in your brain.  Several factors may cause these changes.  The condition is called depression.

While we do not know the actual cause for depression, we do know that the condition can cause debilitation. New treatments are available to help cope with this condition. It can be diagnosed properly by a medical doctor, psychologist or psychiatrist.

Medication can help to stabilize the chemical imbalances in the brain, but to help yourself with the symptoms of depression you should to know what they are and how they are affecting your life.  You are not alone.  Millions of people are hit with this disorder at one time or another. Just don’t ignore the problem because help is available.

Different methods of treatment for depression exist if medication is not a choice. Talk therapy, psychotherapy, meditation, sometimes even aromatherapy can help.  Often just talking to someone will help release the feelings you may be keeping bottle up inside.

The common symptoms for this medical condition are persistent hopeless feeling, no appetite, sad feelings, weight loss, extreme negativity, sleeplessness, and losing interest in former or new activities, feelings of sadness or loneliness; so many times without apparent reason, over an extended period of time.  It’s the inability to find pleasure.

Depression may also cause mood swings which are severe. Some women can suffer from post partum depression after childbirth.  With most women, the depression will diminish in a short time and yet others continue to suffer for what can seem like forever.  They are unable to bond properly with the new born baby because of overwhelming emotions that can disable them from caring for the child. They need to seek their physician’s help to find a solution.

Bipolar is a type of depression.  This is extreme mood swings; intense highs of anxiety, or irritability and lowest of lows of unworthiness and sorrow; like living life is like a ride on a roller coaster.

With diagnosis from a doctor antidepressant medications may be prescribed for these disorders. Depression may be managed, but you need to understand and work on things that trigger the symptoms.

Try joining in activities such as a joke club, where your mind can be diverted and involved in activities that sooth your. It may be necessary for you to change life style; stress can be a major factor.

Negative thinking can be helped with cognitive behavior therapy. Depression can be fought by clearing your mind and empowering it with positive thought and affirmations.

Just don’t give up.  You could waste many years throughout your life where you feel very normal and live a very productive lifestyle.  Whatever excuses you find to give yourself for not seeing a doctor about this condition should by tempered by remembering that this is a medical condition that needs attention.

You can help yourself in the fight, but you don’t have to do it by yourself.
